Business Growth Grant

The Shawnee Forward Business Growth Grant provides matching funds to help small businesses invest in expansion projects that create new full-time jobs in Pottawatomie County. Funded through Shawnee Forward investment earnings and partner support, the program encourages capital investment that strengthens existing businesses, expands operations, and grows the local economy. Grants reimburse up to 50% of eligible project costs, with awards of up to $20,000. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until annual funding is exhausted. 

• For-profit businesses located in Pottawatomie County.
• 50 or fewer full-time employees.
• Startup or existing businesses are eligible.  
• Project must create net new full-time jobs before reimbursement. 
• Business must demonstrate financial capacity to complete the project.
• Current on taxes, licenses, and insurance. 
• One grant per business. 
• Grant may be combined with other funding sources. 

• 50/50 matching grant. 
• Maximum award up to $20,000. 
• Rolling application review. 
• Reimbursement payment after project completion. 
• Grant funds are limited to approved capital investments and may not be used for payroll, rent, utilities, inventory, working capital, or other operating expenses. 

• Building renovations or expansions 
• Machinery, equipment, or technology 
• Infrastructure improvements 
• Training tied to new jobs 
• Professional services directly related to the project

1. Applicant submits application. 

2. Staff reviews, scores, and recommends funding. 

3. Board approves or denies request. 

4. Grant agreement executed. 

5. Project completed and documentation submitted. 

6. Reimbursement issued after verification of eligible expenses and job creation.
